Collaboration

The forum focuses on raising political visibility and awareness of the importance of investing in efficient building technologies that both improve quality of life and reduce operating costs. As a link between industry and political decision-makers, it is committed to sustainable building infrastructures and the promotion of innovations in building technology.

As an important interface between the building technology sector and politics, the Building Technology Forum is actively involved in promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly building solutions. It uses its political dialogue to draw attention to the importance of efficient and sustainable use of resources in building design. In doing so, the Forum focuses on balanced communication in order to both sensitise politicians to relevant industry concerns and to promote innovative measures and standards.

Building Energy Act: Heat transition and investments need a stable framework

A reliable Building Energy Act creates clear framework conditions and strengthens confidence for necessary investments. With technology-neutral requirements, it enables the realization of efficiency potentials.

Technology as a solution: shaping the energy transition in the building sector

At the VDMA TechTalk in Berlin, politicians, industry and associations discussed how building technology and reliable framework conditions can jointly pave the way to climate-neutral buildings. Practical examples showed that the technology is ready.

"GEG reform offers great opportunity for the energy transition in the building sector"

The reform of the GEG is currently the subject of intense debate. A new publication from the VDMA Building Technology Forum shows that the GEG amendment can meaningfully combine energy efficiency, comfort, health and resilience in building operation.

VDMA Building Technology demands balanced, reliable GEG changes

The VDMA Building Technology Forum warns against rushed GEG changes. Instead of hasty decisions, clear, reliable, and practical rules are needed to preserve proven standards and develop them sustainably - turning reform into an industry opportunity.

Uncertainty slows down climate solutions

The building technology sector offers key solutions for the energy transition – yet it shrank by 4 percent in 2024. The issue isn’t a lack of innovative technology, but rather a lack of political reliability in increasingly uncertain timeson

"Responsibility means creating maximum value from scarce resources"

VDMA member company Hosokawa Alpine AG manufactures machines for processing bulk materials, among other things. Alexander Schmid, Vice President Sales Powder & Particle Processing, reports on the state of the industry in an interview.

Focus on GEG and EPBD: technology solutions for the heating transition in buildings

Over 100 guests came together in Berlin on July 9, 2025 to discuss the GEG, EPBD and the role of mechanical engineering in the building and heating transition. The focus: technology-open, practical solutions for implementation in partnership.

New ISO standard on the energy efficiency of hydraulic systems

ISO published the new ISO 18464 standard in May 2025. It describes a procedure for the design of energy-efficient hydraulic systems.

VDMA Building Technology Welcomes "Construction Turbo"

The draft bill to amend the Building Code (BauGB), also known as the "Bauturbo" or "100-day law" is on the Federal Cabinet's agenda.

Sascha Seiß and Harald Hotop elected as deputy chairmen. Focus on more dynamism in new construction projects and the rapid renovation of existing buildings

Assessment of the Coalition Agreement 2025 from a building technology perspective

A lack of new buildings, stalled refurbishment projects and rising costs are making the transformation of existing buildings towards climate neutrality more difficult. Viable concepts and a simplification of construction and approval practices are needed.

GEG reform: Implement European directive consistently and quickly

-VDMA: Extending the deadline for implementing the European Buildings Directive would send the wrong signal -EPBD is a guarantee for energy efficiency, drinking water and indoor air quality - Building services industry needs planning security

Mastering political uncertainty, securing business

This was the motto of the VDMA Energy Networking Day held in Frankfurt on May 7 and 8. Around 80 members from several trade associations came together to discuss strategically relevant issues relating to energy and climate policy.
