On 30 September 2025, all experts from the 7 sub-committees will meet for the 4th face-to-face meeting to approve the first drafts of the VDMA Specification at the VDMA in Frankfurt. Sub-committees 2-7 will also present their results. Language of the event: DE.

Since October 2024, the various sub-working groups of the Requirements for H2 & H2-Derivatives Plants & Systems working group (VDMA Specification 69243-X DE/EN) have drafted General Part 1 as well as corresponding requirement matrices for the individual products along the hydrogen value chain from the electrolyser (H2 production) to compressors, storage, distribution including filling & emptying systems, chemical processes (PtX) and power plants (combustion of H2). The requirement lists can serve as a basis for checklists for operators, suppliers, approvers and other stakeholders. The meeting on 30 September 2025 represents a milestone because a draft - at least for Part 1, but possibly also for other parts - will be published after the meeting and released for the public consultation process, which is expected to run until early 2026.

You can read here what the more than 50 experts from Germany, Austria, France and Italy have been working on since the first meetings.

*Participation and languages
The event is aimed exclusively at experts from mechanical and plant engineering, planners, approval authorities and operators of H2 and H2-derivative plants in Europe. We look forward to your participation if you can contribute your expertise in plant genetic components and overall systems along the value chain for production, transport, storage and application for H2 and H2-derivative plants and systems! The sub-working groups meet approximately monthly (online) and the working language is currently German, as long as we focus on the ‘German’ market / jurisdiction. We also have a sub-working group for other EU markets with English as the working language. The face-to-face meetings (approximately every 4 months) are aimed at both German-speaking and non-German-speaking experts; as we are only looking at the German-speaking markets of Germany and Austria in the first phase, the working language on 30 September 2025 will also be German. If English-speaking interested parties register, we will offer an update meeting after 30 September 2025 to present the results in EN. Participants will receive the approved presentations after the event and will be invited to future events (if not desired, please inform us).

Visitors to the event are welcome to book a hotel room with VDMA special conditions (see attachment). Please note that the VDMA conditions do not apply during trade fair periods - if in doubt, please enquire at the hotel. We also recommend comparing conditions via the well-known online portals such as www.booking.com; www.hrs.de etc. .

If you have any questions, please contact the VDMA project managers Ragnar Strauch and Lucien Beisswenger (see below).

VDMA coordination
The preparation of the "Guideline Requirements for H2 Plants and Systems in Germany and Europe - VDMA Specification" will involve the expertise of several VDMA units, such as the Process Engineering Machinery and Apparatus, Power Systems and Power-to-X for Applications working groups, the Large Plant Construction working group and other trade associations. If you have any questions, please contact Lucien Beisswenger ([email protected]); Ragnar Strauch ([email protected]); Sophia Herres ([email protected]).
