We cordially invite you to the VDMA event: "The Dragon in the Room - How Much China Can We Handle?", taking place on October 23, 2025 at 10:00 in Bologna.
We are facing a situation unlike any we’ve experienced before. Disruptive changes in the global environment are increasing, and a “different China” is playing a significant role in this. The China we once knew no longer exists. The Chinese economy is weak, Chinese competitors are pushing into third markets, and the technological edge of Western companies is shrinking. Products from the Far East are improving - and are almost always cheaper.
What does this mean for VDMA member companies?
Mechanical engineering firms are experiencing declining revenues and intensified unfair competition in China, in third markets, and in the EU home market. Increasing non-tariff trade barriers are driving up costs, for example through product adaptations. At the same time, compliance requirements such as cybersecurity are becoming more demanding. Many companies need to reassess their China strategies.
What does this event offer you?
We aim to inform you about the “new geopolitics” and its implications for your corporate strategy. China experts like Claudia Barkowsky from VDMA China in Bejing and Oliver Wack from VDMA Foreign Trade Department in Frankfurt will explain China’s role in this context and the impact on corporate China strategies. In a workshop, we will work together to develop ideas for dealing with Chinese competitors. Insights into the China practices of the companies Carraro S.p.A. and Ognibene Power S.p.A., along with a moderated discussion with our China experts, will provide inspiration for your individual China strategy.
Target group: Executive management, business development and China officers.
The event is free of charge and will be held in English. Please register by October 13, 2025 using the registration link.
