The use of technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) is becoming increasingly important in mechanical engineering. The exchange of experiences shows exemplarily which applications can be used.
More powerful processors, improved graphics cards, sensors and image processing systems as well as progressive software development have opened up the use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications in industry.
Virtual Reality enables the user to experience and interact with a 3D world using tools such as VR data glasses. VR applications are becoming more and more important in the industry and are specially developed for the respective needs. VR can be used, for example, for educational and training purposes or for product or production presentations. With Augmented Reality, the user is in the real world and receives additional information. A wide variety of aids are used, ranging from smartphones to tablets, head-up displays, holography systems and AR glasses. AR offers versatile application possibilities in the industry.
Best Practices of the companies SMS group GmbH and Oculavis GmbH will be shown as part of the exchange of experience. SMS group GmbH uses these technologies for training purposes and has opened its own Digital Classroom for this purpose. Oculavis GmbH presents the application possibilities of Smart Glasses in the service area and shows their limits. During the tour through the SmartFactoryOWL, the participants have the opportunity to try out some of the AR and VR technologies for themselves.
The event is offered by ProduktionNRW. ProduktionNRW is the competence network for mechanical engineering and production technology in North Rhine-Westphalia and is carried out by VDMA NRW. ProduktionNRW sees itself as a platform for networking, informing and marketing companies, institutions and networks among themselves and along the value chain. Substantial parts of the services provided by ProduktionNRW are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
